Curriculum

Programme Structure

The programme is structured in 5 modules, listed below in order of study.

01

Fundamentals of prototyping, applied innovation and early validation of ideas

  • Prototype concept and differences between idea, sketch, mockup, MVP, pilot and final product
  • Role of the prototyping in innovation processes, product design, services, technology and business models
  • Prototype typologies: low fidelity, medium fidelity, high fidelity, functional, visual, digital and physical
  • Relationship between hypotheses, uncertainty, learning, experimentation and risk reduction in innovation
  • Frequent errors in prototyping: perfectionism, lack of focus, late tests and absence of metrics
02

Prototype design, tools and methods of quick construction

  • Definition of the prototype objective according to problem, user, functionality, experience or technical feasibility
  • Sketching, wireframes, storyboards, mockups, mockups, flowcharts and initial visual representations
  • Digital tools for prototypes of applications, websites, services, connected products and interactive experiences
  • Fast manufacturing, 3D printing, cutting, basic assembly, electronic kits and materials accessible for physical prototypes
  • Service prototypes via Role Play, Customer Journey, Process simulation, and experience testing
03

Design of tests, hypotheses, metrics and experimentation with users

  • Formulation of innovation hypotheses on problem, solution, user, market, technology and willingness to pay
  • Design of exploratory tests, usability tests, functional tests, interviews, surveys and controlled experiments
  • Selection of users, test profiles, scenarios, tasks, scripts and observation criteria
  • Definition of learning metrics: understanding, interest, utility, ease of use, conversion, satisfaction and errors
  • Record of results, qualitative evidence, quantitative data, feedback and behaviour patterns
04

Iteration, prototype improvement and innovation decision making

  • Analysis of test results and differences between opinion, evidence, weak signal and validated learning
  • Prioritization of improvements according to impact, effort, risk, urgency and alignment with project objectives
  • Iteration of prototypes through changes of design, functionality, message, flow, materials or experience
  • Decisions to pivot, persevere, pause or discard an idea according to evidence obtained
  • Communication of learning to the team, stakeholders, internal customers or investors
05

Applied project of prototypes and innovation tests

  • Definition of the innovation challenge, problem to be solved, target user and opportunity detected
  • Formulation of hypotheses, success criteria, learning metrics and experimentation plan
  • Design and construction of the initial prototype using physical, digital or service tools
  • Execution of tests with users, collection of feedback, observations and relevant data
  • Iteration of the prototype, evaluation of results and definition of final decision of the project
