Entry Requirements

At Navalis Magna Institute (NMI), admission to our programmes is carefully designed to ensure that every selected student has the potential, motivation, and competencies needed to excel in the global maritime sector. Our offerings include diplomas, master’s degrees, specialised courses, and international licences, so entry requirements are tailored to the level and type of training, ensuring a balance between academic excellence and practical experience.

Candidates must demonstrate a strong and consistent academic record:

Diplomas and short courses:

  • A completed secondary education certificate (or equivalent).

  • Transcripts and certificates from previous studies, including official grades.

Master’s and advanced programmes:

  • An internationally recognised undergraduate degree.

  • Official academic transcripts and, where possible, certified translations into English.

  • Previous courses related to the maritime industry or naval engineering will be viewed positively.

International licences and certifications:

  • Documentation that meets the relevant European, international, or local requirements for professional maritime training.

  • Medical and health certificates where on-board placements or navigation simulations are required.

For some advanced programmes, NMI requires prior experience to ensure students can apply knowledge in practice:

Master’s and specialised programmes:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the naval or maritime industry.

  • Experience in areas such as navigation, port logistics, marine engineering, maritime safety, fleet management, or shipbuilding.

  • Employer references supporting competencies, leadership, and professional performance.

International licences and certifications programmes:

    • Recommended minimum experience in navigation or maritime activities, in line with international standards from the IHO, IMO, or the EU.

As NMI is an international institute, fluency in English is essential in order to participate in classes, lectures, seminars, and global projects:

  • Minimum certification: B2/C1 level in English (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, or an equivalent recognised qualification).

  • Additional languages (Spanish, French, German, or Portuguese) are viewed positively for programmes involving international collaboration.

Each candidate must submit a document that demonstrates:

  • A genuine interest in maritime education and training.

  • Clear professional goals and how studying at NMI will help achieve them.

  • Willingness to take part in international projects, applied research, and professional placements.

  • Commitment to NMI’s ethical values and standards of academic excellence.

To complete the application, applicants must provide:

  • A photocopy of a valid passport or national ID.

  • A recent digital photograph.

  • Medical certificates confirming good health (mandatory for placements in maritime environments).

  • Criminal record certificates where required, depending on the country of origin or international regulations.

  • Proof of payment of the admission fee, where applicable.

Candidates who meet NMI’s entry requirements typically demonstrate:

  • A passion for the maritime sector and naval innovation.

  • Leadership potential and the ability to work effectively in multicultural teams.

  • An international mindset and openness to global collaboration.

  • Commitment to professional ethics, sustainability, and maritime safety.
