Naval Innovation Laboratory

At Navalis Magna Institute (NMI), the Naval Innovation Laboratory is the technological and experimental core of our institution, designed to foster creativity, applied research, and the development of advanced solutions for the global maritime industry. Our laboratory is not only an academic space, but also a centre for technological experimentation and knowledge transfer to industry.

The laboratory brings together state-of-the-art equipment, emerging technologies, and the expertise of researchers, engineers, and students, with the aim of developing prototypes, intelligent systems, and sustainable solutions for navigation, shipbuilding, maritime safety, and port management.

Laboratory Innovation Areas

  • Development of hybrid and electric propulsion systems for vessels.
  • Optimisation of energy consumption through advanced hydrodynamic simulations.
  • Research into sustainable fuels and renewable energies applied to the maritime industry.
  • Autonomous navigation systems and intelligent assistance for vessels.

  • Implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to optimise routes and prevent accidents.

  • Sensors and real-time monitoring systems for maritime traffic management.

  • Testing of composite materials, lightweight alloys, and materials resistant to marine corrosion.
  • Optimisation of naval structures through computational simulation and 3D modelling.
  • Development of high-efficiency and high-safety vessel prototypes.
  • Research into technologies for reducing emissions and aquatic pollution.
  • Intelligent systems for the protection of ecosystems and marine species.
  • Studies on environmental impact and the circular economy in ports and shipyards.

  •
