Programme Structure

The programme is structured in 5 modules, listed below in order of study.

01

Nautical software fundamentals, maritime digital ecosystem and main functions of applications for boat operation

  • Nautical software concept and evolution of digital applications used in navigation, boat management and maritime operations
  • Typologies of apps and nautical platforms: navigation, meteorology, maintenance, crew management, telemetry and document control
  • Relationship between digitization, operational efficiency, on-board safety and improvement of user experience in recreational and professional boats
  • Functional components of a nautical digital solution - interface, database, connectivity, maps, sensors and embedded integration systems
  • Differences between shipped nautical software, mobile apps, web platforms, and fleet or marine management solutions
02

Navigation applications, digital mapping and decision support tools in the nautical environment

  • Navigation software and apps: Positioning functions, routes, waypoints, alarms, tracking and basic traverse planning
  • Digital cartography and visualisation systems - electronic charts, information layers, risk zones and navigation aids
  • Integration of GNSS, AIS, Radar, Echosounder and Weather Sensors in Digital Navigation Platforms
  • Applications for weather forecasting, sea state, wind, tides and operating conditions relevant to safe navigation
  • Calculation tools and decision support: optimal routes, estimated consumption, arrival times and analysis of en route conditions
03

Nautical management software for maintenance, documentation, boat operation and technical administration

  • Applications for preventive and corrective maintenance management of motors, electrical systems, deck equipment and auxiliary components
  • Documentary control platforms: certificates, licences, inspections, insurance, technical history and administrative compliance of the boat
  • Software for inventory, spare parts, consumables and organisation of on-board resources with focus on traceability and efficiency
  • Digital tools for logs, browsing records, incidents, pending tasks and daily operational control
  • Management applications for marinas, nautical clubs, charter and small fleets with reserve functions, tracking and basic administration
04

Connectivity, system integration and data usage in modern nautical software and apps

  • Principles of connectivity in nautical environments: local networks, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile links, satellite and communication with shipped devices
  • Integration of apps with sensors, IoT systems, gateways, on-board instrumentation and remote monitoring platforms
  • Data flow between ship, user, cloud and control centres: capture, transmission, storage and operational exploitation
  • Nautical data visualisation in dashboards, mobile panels and web platforms with criteria of clarity and functional utility
  • Automation of alerts, events and reports through software connected to critical security, energy and performance parametres
05

CapStone Project for the selection, evaluation and application of apps and nautical software on a boat or real or simulated operating case

  • Definition of the study case: type of boat, use profile, operational needs and priority digital functions
  • Identification and comparison of applications and platforms suitable for navigation, technical management, maintenance and document control
  • Digital integration scheme design: connectivity, data flow, visualisation and relationship between systems and users
  • Assessment of usability, security, compatibility and practical usefulness of the tools selected for the analysed case
  • Preparation of a proposal for the implementation and operational use of the digital nautical ecosystem with criteria of efficiency and technical sustainability
