Programme overview

What is the Course in Desalination and Hydrogen Production?

The Course in Desalination and Hydrogen Production

Prepares you to solve the water supply challenge of green hydrogen projects in coastal areas. You will study the water quality requirements of electrolysers, desalination and purification to ultrapure water, integrating water and hydrogen plants, brine management and the research into direct seawater electrolysis and offshore hydrogen production, which is still under development.

Key advantages

  • An emerging subject: Water is a key and often overlooked part of hydrogen projects.
  • An integrated view: Desalination, purification and electrolysis in one course.
  • Technological rigour: Separates mature technologies from lines of research.
  • A focused format: Five modules centred on system design.
  • Case study: Designing the water supply for a coastal hydrogen plant.

Questions

Entry Requirements

It is an active area of research, but current practice is to desalinate and purify the water before electrolysis.
Electrolysis consumes water stoichiometrically and treatment adds losses; the course teaches you to work out the full balance.
Only as an introduction; the course focuses on water and its integration with production.
It is not essential; the basic concepts you need are explained.
You design the water supply and treatment system for a hydrogen plant on the coast.
100% online, with a virtual campus available 24/7, live sessions that are recorded, and tutorials with the teaching staff.
The programme involves 300 hours of study. You can work at your own pace within the timetable we give you when you enrol.
Each programme has its own start date, shown on this page and confirmed by our admissions team when you enquire.
On completing the programme you receive the Course in Desalination and Hydrogen Production qualification awarded by Navalis Magna Institute.
