Curriculum

Programme Structure

The programme is structured in 5 modules, listed below in order of study.

01

Chain of survival and recognition of cardiac arrest

  • The chain of survival links: importance of early recognition and early warning.
  • Technical differentiation between cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction and syncope.
  • Evaluation of the environment and safety of the rescuer before starting the intervention.
  • Verification of consciousness: tactile and auditory stimuli following international protocols.
  • Evaluation of breathing: "see, hear and feel" technique (maximum 10 seconds).
02

High quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (RCP) in adults

  • Physiology of chest compressions: the heart as an external mechanical pump.
  • Compression Technique: Hand position, body weight use and depth (5-6 cm).
  • Cardiac massage frequency: Maintaining a constant rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.
  • Importance of complete chest expansion and minimisation of interruptions.
  • Assisted ventilation: Ratio technique 30 compressions for 2 insufflations with barrier devices.
03

The Automatic External Defibrillator (DEA): Operation and Application

  • Physical principles of defibrillation: Elimination of lethal arrhythmias (ventricular fibrillation).
  • DEA Anatomy: Buttons, patches (electrodes) and command voice systems.
  • Bare chest patching and turning protocol: Standard and alternative positions.
  • Safety during rhythm analysis: The importance of not touching the patient.
  • The discharge cycle: Administration of electric shock and immediate resumption of CPR.
04

Basic life support in pediatrics and infants

  • Anatomical and physiological differences between the adult, the child and the infant in unemployed.
  • Children's CPR technique: compressions with one or two hands depending on the size of the patient.
  • CPR technique for infants: technique of both thumbs or two fingers and compression depth.
  • Compression-ventilation ratio in pediatrics for one and two rescuers.
  • Use of the DEA in pediatrics: pediatric patches, energy attenuators and anterior-posterior positioning.
05

High-fidelity drills and skills assessment

  • Skill Integration: Practice of complete PCR cycles combined with the use of the DEA.
  • Simulation of scenarios in reduced spaces: corridors, cabins or restricted work areas.
  • Team Coordination: Emergency leadership and clear communication during the event.
  • Assessment of the quality of compression through feedback systems (feedback) in real time.
  • Maintenance and periodic review of the DEA: Control of batteries and expiration date of the patches.
